Pumpkin Spice Gloop Bowl
2/5 on its own. 3/5 with half a pint of blueberries on top. 2.5/5 with half a cup of Grape-Nuts.
This is the third flavor of my weekly breakfast batch, the gloop bowl: Greek yogurt, oats, whey, chia and skim milk, all mixed in one tub on Sunday and eaten all week. The berry version is the one I keep coming back to. This time the berries were swapped for canned pumpkin purée, with vanilla whey, a little maple syrup, chopped pecans and pumpkin pie spice. It seemed like the right thing for October.

It’s edible. I ate it. But on its own it never gave me a reason to want the next spoonful. The berry version has frozen fruit breaking up the gloop. This one is the same smooth, dense texture from top to bottom, and the spice isn’t strong enough to carry that alone.

Most of the week I ate it with half a pint of blueberries stirred in, which made it better but not good. That’s where the 3/5 comes from, and honestly most of that point belongs to the blueberries.
Then I tried half a cup of Grape-Nuts on top. The crunch made it more interesting, and also turned up a faint metallic taste. I’m not sure the Grape-Nuts caused it. It may have been there all week and the blueberries were covering it. That matters to me because the chocolate peanut butter version had the same problem, and I never worked out where it came from. I’m still not going to run the experiment to find out. I’m just noting that it showed up a second time.
Would I make it again? Probably once a year, in October, for seasonal fun. As a regular breakfast, no. The berry version goes back into rotation this week.
